VO2MAX TESTING
What is VO2max?
VO2 max, or maximal oxygen consumption, refers to the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilise during intense or maximal exercise. This measurement is considered the best indicator of cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. The more oxygen a person can use during high level exercise, the more energy a person can produce.
Measuring VO2max
Measuring VO2max can help you understand your fitness level at the beginning of your exercise program (baseline measurements). By testing your VO2max intermittently, you will be able to track your progress and achieve your performance goals.
VO2max testing involves exercising either on a treadmill or a bike at an intensity that increases every few minutes, until exhaustion. Through a face mask connected to a specialised machine, we directly measure the volume and gas concentrations of inspired and expired air.
